Tony DeRose of Pixar will illustrate the extraordinary contribution of mathematics to animated films.  Filmmaking is undergoing a digital revolution brought on by advances in areas such as computer technology, computational physics, geometry, and approximation theory.  Using numerous clips drawn from Pixar's feature films, DeRose will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the role that math plays in the revolution.  A question and answer period will follow the lecture.
